Family Blunt snowboarding experience

elecperiodic.jpg

While the grumpy old gits amongst us (i.e. me) moan and complain about snow and ice, some of the unhinged within our family take sub-zero temperatures and snowfall as some kind of freakish challenge, and throw themselves off mountains.

To put it another way, the Erbalist, SdZ, Doug, Mikeee, Rich and Alex decided to go snowboarding in Bulgaria a couple of weeks ago. It would seem a good time was had by all.

But don’t take my word for it, the Erbalist has compiled a short review report on the shenanigans on the piste (in more ways than one)

Knickers to that – too much like hard work….I was safely ensconced at Blunt HQ with a cup-a-soup, while the alpine contingent tried to defy gravity, and fair play to ‘em.

The report on the week long excursion, as seen by the Erbalist, is below:

Podcast – Riot Control

riot.jpgRight. We haven’t listed any podcasts for a couple of weeks, so, in order to make up for it, we’re listing one of the best we’ve heard for ages, courtesy of the Riot Control crew. Riot Control are based in Brooklyn, New York, and put out some absolutely scorching studio sets.

What makes these guys different is the tunes, which, as we all know, is what it’s all about. Burt Fox and the crew play mellow funk, hip hop, soul, electro, dub, and whatever takes their fancy. There are some absolute gems in this series of podcasts, new and old, rare and well-known. Continue reading…

Official Blunt Beats office now up and running

elecperiodic.jpg

It’s been a long time coming, but the family Blunt have finally decided they need more space. This isn’t due to our ever increasing waistlines over the Christmas period, but simply that the recording bunker at Blunt HQ can get very hectic when trying to do the paperwork!

Therefore, we’ve sharpened our act (slightly!), and have now moved into a spanking new office at the Hat Factory arts and media centre in Luton, Bedfordshire. From our new base, we’ll be working on our plans for total world domination, alongside national and international gigs, festivals etc

This office will also be the base for several of our personal projects including Agent M’s S.A.R.S (Serious and Real Sounds) music showcase, and the Erbalist’s media company, Blunt Films.

Radio Flyers (finally) uploaded to view

elecperiodic.jpg

Well, it had to happen sometime. Lots of you have been hassling us to put up copies of our radio flyers for public viewing for absolutely ages. For those of you that aren’t sure what we’re talking about here, its quite simple. Every week we post a flyer/ad for our Wednesday night live radio show, and we started to make these as tongue-in-cheek (i.e. stupid) as possible.

Nobody and nothing is safe. From fat people, to midgets, to smoking children, national monuments, and fried chicken…we’ve used them all as backdrops for our promotions.

As we said, this is all tongue-in-cheek, and just done for a bit of a giggle (if you’re offended by any of them, please feel free to bugger off to a lentil-eating hippy commune somewhere, and leave the rest of us alone to swear and burp and make fun of stuff!!)

Anyway, thanks to some head scratching and button pushing, you can now take a look at our flyer gallery. Funnily enough, its on the gallery page….

Erbalist and Agent M LIVE at Hive – 27th Jan

elecperiodic.jpg

If you’re out and about in the Luton area this weekend, and like your dub and roots vibes, then you’ll be able to catch Agent M and the Erbalist playing live at Hive (at The Edge, Park Street, Luton) this Saturday.

Doors open at 9, its 4 quid to get in before 11, more after, and the party goes on ’til 4am. (woo hoo!)

Wreckup and the crew will be taking care of the main room, with lashings of drum and bass, jungle, acid techno and associated beats. Djs will include Wreckup, Assida Jim-larden, A.M.C, and Chris Renegade from Renegade Hardware.

The Blunted Representatives will be holding down room 2, with a selection of heavyweight dub, dancehall and roots. Aside from Agent M and the Erbalist, other reggae selectas will include Djs from Ascenzion Dub Syndicate and Solution Sounds. Whichever room you’re in, it’s gonna be heavy! – See you there…

The Curly Wurly Drum and Bass Mixtape

elecperiodic.jpg

Blunt Beats resident DJ Marcus (curly wurly) Hurley has been busy in his Hertfordshire recording bunker, putting down some drum and bass tracks from back in the day, and mixing it up for y’all. Good Stuff.

There’s tracks in here from the likes of DJ Kane, Shimon, and Omni Trio. Classic drum and bass for those in the know, as it should be done, and mixed up a treat by Marcus. Expect to see more sets from Mr Hurley getting posted up very soon, covering a range of styles from funk, to hip hop, to disco, to drum and bass (such as this mix)

This mix is almost as sweet as the Cadbury’s product in question. Listen to it here, and turn it up! :) – A tracklisting for this particular set is below: Continue reading…

New Track from MC Sirota

elecperiodic.jpgLong-Time Blunt cohort MC Sirota has been busy working on plenty of new material. Check it out at his myspace site. He’s been busy working with a number of respected producers, as well as working on his own creations. Conscious lyrics with on-point, distinctive delivery. Good stuff.

Sirota works across a number of music genres including hip hop, garage, and r n’b. One of the tracks he’s just finished putting together is something that gives props to all the extended family and crews. It’s called “rolling it out” and you can listen to it here (and, you might even notice and impromtu Agent M appearance on the track if you listen hard enough!)

Keep your eye out for Sirota – should be a busy year. Keep it up! (and expect to see a live appearance from the man himself at our Audio Vault Project gig series over the coming months)

Yet More Stuff Worth Watching

elecperiodic.jpgWe’ve been at it again. The Blunt family have been settling down in front of the screen for more random bits of film that have caught our interest.

As this regular film review has proved so popular, we thought we’d put some more up. Following on from previous reviews, there’s allsorts in here this time, from football to the French Foreign Legion. (Last time, this section covered topics from Michael Jackson to meerkats!)

Don’t forget to check the archives for previous film recommendations from the Blunt family. Some will make you laugh. Some will make you think. And some are just downright stupid. Take a look at the televisual delights below that we’ve compiled this time, and sit back and enjoy. Continue reading…

Bitchin’ about the glitchin’

elecperiodic.jpg

The harmony of Blunt HQ has been somewhat disrupted. We’re currently fighting a war with technology and cables, which we will win. Of that there is no doubt. Some of you may have noticed that a few of the mixes on our website (and our radio loop) appear to be glitching, meaning that you guys out there aren’t getting your Blunted audio quite as you should. You’re probably thinking it’s the record jumping, or your internet connection being a bit wonky. It’s neither of these.

Put simply, our studio recording software has gone tits up, and therefore some of the mixes sound like there’s bits missing out of them (which there are). We’re looking to sort this out as soon as we can, and our white-coated technical bods will be doing their stuff to fix it over the next couple of days. When they do, we’ll re-record the dodgy mixes in question. Because we’re nice like that.

So bear with us. We know the mixes are as fat as Vanessa Feltz in her glory days, but some of them sound like they are recorded on a Commodore Vic20. We’ll be sorting it out as soon as we can.

Erbalist dub mix: Bongs Away

elecperiodic.jpg

Here at Blunt HQ, we’ve been treated to a delve into the Erbalist’s Dub collection.
This mix is entitled “Bongs Away”. The tunes are hand-picked by the Erbalist from all over the place, some classics, some digi dub some analogue, some old a few new, & a few remixed. Continue reading…
