"Classic and unique beats, down and dirty round the edges, for people who should know better."

Kieran Hebden and Steve Reid at Koko

This has to be one of the most exciting musical events that I have been to. The night was kicked of by the first set of James Holden, playing some great sounds of electronical madness. His second set really started getting the crowd moving rhythmically with the electronic bleeps & far out drone sounds. Big ups to Mr Holden for 2 fine dj sets.

The support act wasn’t all that so I’ll swiftly move on to the main act – Kieran Hebden & Steve Reid. What can I say? I was breathless for 2hrs of mad free jazz drumming mixed with Mr Hebden’s wild mix of electronical madness whipping the crowd up into a electrojazzology frenzy.

This has to be one of the greatest musical performances I have ever seen, and I’ve seen many. It is definitely the first gig in a long time were I’ve walked out of a venue afterwards totally buzzin’ from the performance and in awe of the music. Thank you very much Mr Reid & Mr Hebden for a fantastic night of great music.

So my tip of the week is go see these guys if you get a chance. You won’t be disappointed. Drop us a comment I’ve you were there too, or have caught the KH & SR experience…

tv02.jpg…No, not like that, you bunch of dirty ras’s! - I’m referring to our periodic blunted review of various outputs of film and tv that we’ve been casting our beady eyes over here at HQ.

We’ve got some very random bits and pieces for you this time (just like every other time) in this increasingly popular section. Big ups to everyone that enjoyed the last instalment covering everything from crack cocaine to Street Hawk. Anyway, on with our latest selection. Continue reading…

Over the Top action replay from Marcus

ectasy.gifWell what can I say about the last “Over the Top”? For those who missed it - shame on you! And for those who attended a wicked night was had by all.

I was unable to record my dj set on the night so I have locked myself in my studio to do just that. Here is a souvenir for you to download and enjoy all over again. Continue reading…

It’s a recording from this month’s live Blunt Beats Radio session at the Hat Factory and it went like this: Continue reading…

So that’s where it comes from

I’m going slightly off topic here and posting bit of a linguistic history lesson today. However, in true Blunted tradition it’s a nugget of wisdom that’s high on satisfaction (e.g. wow, I never knew that), but low on practical use (now I know that what do I do with it?).

The @ sign. A character that, in this internet age of wireless connectivity and global communications, we use every day; dozens of times a week; thousands of times a year. Continue reading…
