Heavy Vibes Special part II – Tracklisting and Download Details

c90.jpg

It’s fair to say last nights show was a stormer from the word go. Quality ska, rocksteady, dub, and roots sounds from right across the years. It was geat fun, and a pleasure for me personally, to dig out some old tracks that I haven’t aired in a while. I know the Erbalist did the same! Our special thanks also go out to Dread-i from Liberation Collective for a spot-on roots selection as our guest DJ.

Big ups as well to both the Dogg-G and the Bushdoctor, who were on a visit to Blunt HQ. Our thanks also go out to all the local crew at Ascenzion Dub Syndicate, and Solution Sounds, for their continued support on the reggae vibe. Our appreciation also goes out to our international listening base (those we know, and those we don’t!) right around the world. Bangkok to Berlin, Budapest to Barcelona, Birmingham to Brooklyn, and everywhere inbetween. Thank you. We’re glad you like the music. We’ll keep it coming.

The entire night’s recording can be found on our radio page, and a full tracklisting for each DJ is below. Expect us to line up the third part of our Heavy Vibes series in the near future. The response we’ve had so far on these sessions has been excellent, so thanks again for your support, and we’ll be doing it all again very soon. One love :) Continue reading…

Rodger Waters Sat 12th May at Earls Court

yellow.jpg
I was lucky to be put on the guest list for Rodger Waters at Earls Court courtesy of the Afghan who has been changing light bulbs for him on his latest European tour. What a tour to work on, Mr Waters has been performing Dark Side Of The Moon in its entirety. I was lucky enough to catch Rodger & his band perform this at Hyde Park last summer and to find out he was touring the same show and to be offered a couple of tickets I had to go.

The journey down there was a bit of a mission, train lines being worked on and alternate routes to be made, thanks London Underground for making my journey to and from Earls Court easy, NOT!!!.

i was a little late and missed the start but in time to catch the performance of Dark Side Of The Moon, the show was fantastic, as soon as the crowd heard the start of Speak To Me, tensions rose and people started standing up and moving to the front, me being already at the front didn’t need to move.

The whole performance was great as was Mr Waters band which included the likes of Snowy White and Andy Fairweather Low guitar maestro’s of 70’s & 80’s, one of his backing vocalists was PP Arnold of First Cut Is The Deepest fame and one of Ike and Tina Turners Ikets, his son Harry was on Keyboards, and on Drums for the Performance of Dark Side Of The Moon was Nick Mason. Wow what a gig.

We’re gonna be pullin’ something special out of the bag this week. Literally. This Wednesdays radio show sees the second part in our “Heavy Vibes” reggae series. 4 hours of quality iree sounds, courtesy of Agent M and the Erbalist. But that’s not all. Oh no. The family Blunt have arranged a little treat for you luck people in webland.

We’ve arranged for Dj Dread-i from the Liberation Collective to come and play and exclusive set for us too. So, needless to say, this one’s gonna be a quality session. Expect to hear loads of dub and roots music from across the years, with lashings of rocksteady and ska, and maybe a hint of dancehall thrown in the mix. Quality stuff with which to fight the forces of babylon! :)

Be sure to check out the show live from 8pm UK time, and don’t forget you’ll be able to download the whole nights music for 7 days after the show via the link on our radio page.

Shizzle On Da TizzleVizzle

S’sup all you Olde English sippin’, home lounging crew….

I’m conscious of the fact that I haven’t presented you with any stare-inducing eyeball stimulation by way of my Blunted review of things worth watching for a while now. I’ll hold my hand up to it. I’ve been slack.

Things have been “as fast-paced as one who has sexual relations with their female parent” (hectic as a motherfucker) here at Blunt HQ of late, and my time has been taken up with all manner of other stuff rather than trawling the ‘net looking for things for you people in webland to watch. However, I’m nice. So I’ve made up for it by putting this selection together for your bloodshot retinas. Empty the ashtray, grab that can of O.E., sit back and enjoy :) Continue reading…

Brand new and phat beats for the Crew

Drum and bass in the place! After the fantastic success of the last drum and bass mix, here’s another joint of upfront and brand new white-label vinyl — placed in my hand by Nicky Blackmarket himself, right there in his record shop in Soho, London.

The track selection is a blend of jump-up, ragga influenced sounds and some real vocal pearlers. Most of the tunes on this mix will be big summer anthems on the d&b scene.

A couple of my favourites are “Crank” by Nicky Blackmarket which is a real bone shaker, “Just A Little Bit Closer” by Bungle — a lovely vocal liquid sounding track — and finally, Continue reading…

Blunt Beats Radio 23rd May – “Destination Midnight” – Full tracklisting and download details

yellow.jpg

My gosh…..we had a blast last night. We let the Erbalist and Agent M loose on the air, with 2 hours apiece to play with in the latest in our “Destination Midnight” series. This has proved popular of late, so we thought we’d be nice and give you more of the same. The guys themselves were more than happy to oblige with the beats. Those of you that listened in will know that this show was a gem. The family Blunt found its funk and it’s bong, and threw ‘em in the ride along with their bags of jazz, hip hop, disco, and soul, and then set off for one hell of a road trip..

Last nights sets were full of booty slappin’, chrome bouncin’, blunt smokin’ tracks in a ghetto soundtrack format. Perfect for the dice game on the corner. Any corner. Anytime. Any dice game.

If you enjoyed the beats, a full tracklisting is below, and a recording of the entire night is available for the next 7 days via our radio page. We hope you enjoyed it as much as we did.

Oh yeah, don’t forget…If you like your funk and your hip hop sounds, Blunt Beats presents The AudioVault Project, live at The Hat Factory, in Luton this weekend (Sat 26th May). – 2 live acts. Blunt beats djs. Licensed bar. All good. I’m too chilled from listening back to this set to type any more. Find the post about AudioVault for yourself here on blunt beats, you lazy so-and so’s!!

Those of you who tuned into last nights show will be well aware of the fact that it was a belter. Don’t get me wrong, now I’m not saying that our radio sessions are normally a pile of old pony, but Wednesdays session was particularly good. We tweaked the formula a touch this week, and let Marcus G Hurley and Agent M loose with 2 hours each to play with. The mission statement was “to be as indulgent as you like and play what you please“, which both Djs did to the letter.

Marcus G Hurley started off with 120 minutes of quality drum and bass and old skool which rocked the rafters here at Blunt HQ. He took this chance to give a little showcase to what he’ll be playing at the Over The Top gig this weekend (more details will be posted on bluntbeats tomorrow), and certainly showed that he’ll tear it up!

Agent M followed on with 2 hours of a supremely wide-ranging musical feast, gorging himself on dub, hip hop, jazz, breaks and soul, contently belching all the way until midnight. We were getting calls from our webland audience around the world to keep playing ,but the need for sleep became paramount this time! The whole show is available for download for the next 7 days via our radio page, and a full tracklisting is below. Aren’t we nice? Continue reading…

Erbalist out & about again.

Hi there folks. I just thought I’d drop a line to let you know about my travels in March & April, & to big up all the peeps involved.

First of the party’s was down in sunny Brighton for the Ted Live show from the Volks Club, where myself Agent M, SdZ & Minnie Adenoid drove down in the little red go kart. We arrived in Brighton & headed straight for the beach (well it was sunny!) The night didn’t start till 11pm so we meandered around for a bit, & met up with a few of Agent M’s old uni pals, along with Operata M and Tribal Editor for a few afternoon drinks and smokes on the beach. We were starting as we were meaning to go on.
