Ok. This is gonna be a relaxed, informal, yet totally indulgent and mixed up session. - We’ve kind of messed with the formula a little bit this week just to change this up a bit.

What we’re gonna do is have 2 DJs rather than 3 or 4, and give ‘em 2 hours sets apiece. Your guardians on this weeks musical journey will be Agent M and Marcus G Hurley, live from 8pm UK time on Wednesday. This show will cover a wide, wide spectrum for sure. Expect to hear reggae, dub, hip hop, disco, funk, breaks, electronica, and drum and bass. (….alongside anything else these two Blunted DJs decide to play, which, in fairness, could be anything from the Beatnuts to Bo Diddley)

The DJs are really up for this. We love our tunes, and any excuse to play more than we normally do is accepted with open arms! - Seriously, with extended sets, you can be sure to hear some classics dusted down, and some rarities taken out of the box. - Indulgent beats for 4 hours from 2 of Blunt Beats finest. Live. This Wednesday from 8pm. Be sure to check it.

Funk’n hell, ring that bell. Part 1

I was sorting through my vast record collection probably well over ten thousand records and came across some original rare beauties. This mix part 1 of 2 was inspired, by records left to me a few years back from my Granddad (he was a dedicated jazz funk record collector) sadly passed on to the big boss in the sky.

So I have complied large-flare, kipper-tie, fur coat wearing getups to take you back to the days when music was full of soul. Such artists as Herbie Hancock, Bobby Byrd, Jr. Walker and The All Stars influence most of the music with a cheeky blues number to finish, which is sure to have you donning a Chucky Berry air guitar and kicking your leg across the floor. If like this, then part 2 is a must. The tracklisting is below Continue reading…

Once again, we’ve been nice. We really should get an OBE or some shit for our services to the worldwide listener base that we look after so well. We’re lovely. We’re so nice, in fact, that not only did we play some top notch music on Blunt Beats Radio, but we recorded the whole thing and trackilsted it. Gold star for us.

Sets last night from Agent M, Marcus G Hurley, and the Erbalist, across a spectrum of jazz, funk, hip hop, breakbeat and dubstep. Don’t forget you can download the entire show for the next 7 days via out radio page, and listen at your leisure.

It’s fair say conditions were far from perfect last night at Blunt HQ for live transmissions. The electrical gremlins took hold, making our monitors sound like Darth Vader, our cables buzz, and our equipment developed a mind of its own just to really piss us off and cause chaos. We’re not too sure what it was all about, but rest assured it’ll be sorted for next weeks show. Thankfully, most of you who were listening said it sounded fine at your end, but just cut the DJs some slack when you listen back to this session, it wasn’t an easy night. It sounded to us like we were playing in a war zone here at HQ!

Oh yes. We’re at it again.
Blunt Beats Web Radio - Wednesdays - 8pm/midnight (UK time)

A laid-back, dub-flavoured, funk-styled, smoked-out relaxathon, with a few surprises to keep you on your toes!

Sets this week from Blunt beats residents:

8.00-9.20 - Agent M - A mellow blend of jazz, funk, hip-hop, and soul cuts.

9.20-10.40 - Marcus G Hurley - Funk and breaks from back in the day.

10.40-00.00 - Erbalist - Heavyweight dub, dubstep, and electronic sounds.

Just to note…

Agent M is on a mellow one this week, with some hip hop, and soul cuts. Expect to hear some well-produced Philly beats, along with some Motown remixies, and a focus on the BBE record label amongst other things from M this week.

Marcus Hurley will be let loose with his funk and breaks collection tonight, so expect your feet to start tapping, and your smile to widen as he gorges himself on full-fat breaks from the golden days.

Erbalist has been working though some dutty dubstep for tonight, with some roots and even some Rage Against The Machine in there. Should be an interesting set to say the least. Continue reading…

anorak.jpgOk people. Those of you who tuned in to this weeks radio session will know what a little gem this was. Quality, quality music, from right across the board. Gold star to all the DJs!

Seriously, big ups to everyone that tuned in for a particularly varied night of noodle-esque music, it was good to have you along for the trip, and our thanks once again to J for comiin’ over to do a guest show. - Quality tunes frm the “Ras Pizzler” himself.

The whole 4 hour show is available for download on our radio page until next weeks live show on Wednesday 9th April, and in our opinion, it’s well worth a listen!

We like lists. Lists are good. They tell you things. Things you may otherwise forget, or not know. The are also a good aid to those with short term memory problems. The best lists are complete ones. Lovely, lovely lists.

Anyway, because we’re nice (and we like lists), we’ve tracklisted the entire 4 hours, and the details are below:

Riot Control 6 released

Right. I’m gonna keep this short and to the point. Riot Control 6 has recently been released, from the Riot Control crew out of Brooklyn, New York. (I should have posted about this at the end of last week, but it’s been a bit hectic). For those of who who dont know what I’m going on about, check our reviews of previous Riot Control audio, and our interview with DJ Burt Fox.

Anyway, episode 6 of this quality podcast is on a dubstep vibe, with bits of classic roots and dub thrown in for good measure. Needless to say it passes the Blunt Beats quality control test!

Download the show, check the archives, and do your ears a favour at: www.riotcontrolnyc.com

Here endeth the lesson!!
