"Classic and unique beats, down and dirty round the edges, for people who should know better."

The Long And Winding Road

Journeys seem to be the order of the day at the moment. I’ve just come back from the coast, and people I’ve been talking to have been travelling about all over the shop, from Berlin to Bangkok to Brooklyn, to everywhere inbetween. We’ve been busy here at Blunt HQ ourselves of late, dipping in and around the Home Counties and the Capital at various gigs/parties/other such social events.

So, travelling seems to be the order of the day at the moment. It’s probably as time is moving towards summertime, and we’re starting to step out of hibernation, as the days get longer and the beats get blunted. Keeping with this thought, we’ve decided to do our live radio show this week on our popular Destination Midnight theme. As most of you know, this is where we give our Djs extended sets, to allow them to play a personal, indulgent, and wandering selection of music. The sort of stuff, in the kind of mixes, that our more conventional shows may not allow.

It’s gonna be 2 djs, 2 hours apiece, and if our track record is anything to go by on this night, a wide ranging selection of selection of music. Past shows have included jazz, dub, breakbeat, electro, drum and bass, hip hop, funk, and soul (to name but a few genres).

DJs on the night will be Blunt Residents Doug and Agent M. Expect heavy hip hop sounds, latin beats, jazzy grooves, and electronic beats all mashed together.

Uncharted Territory - 23.04.2008 - Tracklisting

DJ Schmang @ BBHQ
As predicted, last night Uncharted Territory live radio session was a resounding musical success. Blunt Residents J and Marcus Hurley were joined by our special guest DJ Schmang, all 3 of whom ensured the drum and bass beats and breaks kept rollin’ all the way through. Continue reading…

New Mix Series: 10beat

We’ve been busying ourselves here at Blunt HQ, earning gold stars for all the ideas we come up with for musical treats for you lucky people. Admittedly, we’re lazy little buggers, so not all out ideas come to fruition.

However, our 10beat project is an exception. What we’re doing is getting 5 of the crew (or guests), to simply give us 2 tracks that they are listening to, with a little explanation as to why. Our thinking is that it’ll allow us to showcase some of the music that we don’t always get to play in our radio shows. Continue reading…

Breez Evahflowin: Radio Song

tv02.jpgI’ll keep this short and to the point for once. “Good job!”, I hear most of you say. Heathens that you are. Erm…I’m not keeping this so short now, am I? Er…Anyway…

My good friend Burt Fox at Riot Control in Brooklyn contacted me the other day to play me this track. It’s produced by the man himself and Dj Manic, and damn slick it is too with Breez Evahflowin doing his thing! Do yourself and your music collection a favour and download it here.

Real nice sound, wicked vocal, tight beats. More of the same please people! Great stuff. Keep up the good work, for sure.

As and when he gives them to me (nudge, nudge!) I’m looking forward to playing some more of Burt’s tracks on our live radio shows over the coming months, so watch this space!

Another exploration trip is on the horizon…

Next weeks live Blunt Beats Radio show sees the welcome return of our well-established Uncharted Territory night.

Spaced out drum and bass and intergalactic breakbeat noise on the night will be provided by Blunters Marcus Hurley and J. Joining them live on the night will be long-time blunt friend, and noisy noisemeister, guest DJ Schmang.

Blunt Beats presents Uncharted Territory, with Marcus Hurley, J, and special guest DJ Schmang. Live from 8pm UK time on Wednesday 23rd April. www.bluntbeats.com/radio.

Portishead: Live at the Hammersmith Apollo, 10th April ‘08

tv02.jpgOn Thursday afternoon I was quietly sat reading a book when I get a phone call from “The Afghan” asking me if I would like to come and watch Portishead tonight. Well, for starters, I thought “thats a bloody silly question”. Of course I said yes.

Anyway, myself and Agent M went along with the plan, and with a short stop for some travel beers we set off. We get to Hammersmith and get in the queue for the guest list. Once more, “The Afghan” does it again, not only are we on the guest list but also the aftershow party. Nice.
