Louis Den Beat Cypher – Paul McCartney Sample Flip

A quick post today to share a vid from my cousin Andy (AKA: ab0181 and Prolifik). It’s a live jam and some comedy xmas beats from a bunch of beatmakers from around the country getting together in Birmingham. And sick, sick beats at that. Enjoy!

Louis Den Beat Cypher – Paul McCartney Sample Flip from Andy Brown on Vimeo.

“Louis Den is a community for beatmakers to show their talent, an area to explore the science of beat making. Here is highlights from the second Louis Den Beat Cypher held in Birmingham 11th Dec 2008. The theme was for the four featured producers to flip a christmas themed record into a brand new sound. The sample this time around is Paul McCartney/Wings – Wonderful Christmastime.”

“Commercialism” by Misanthrop

logoAnimate.gifAs I’m a nice chap (sometimes), I thought I’d give you lucky people a quick heads-up on a tune (and a record label) that I’ve just stumbled across.

The track is called “Commercialism“, by German producer Misanthrop, and is on Berlin-based Equinox Records. Personally, I think it’s a quality release. Something a bit different, that you just cant help to bounce your head to. Big, bass-heavy, dubstep-influenced hip hop beats, I’d kind of describe it as. A “top quality tune“, is probably a more useful summary! (I was never famous for my descriptive talents) I’ll be sure to be playing this.

From taking a quick look at some of the other releases on Equinox, it looks like the quality control is working well. Equinox is certainly one to check out.

As I say, I’ve only just come across both this artist and label, but I will investigate both further on behalf of you, the Blunt Public. I’ll keep you posted with some more music and details in the near future.

For now, listen to Commercialism here. Nice.

Another Uncharted Journey

Uncharted Territory on Blunt Beats Radio
Well, as predicted, last nights Uncharted Territory radio show ticked all the drum and bass and dubstep boxes. The evening kicked off with a set from our special guest DJ Engram, who also treated us to some exclusive tracks form his forthcoming album. Experimental dubstep breaks all round, heavy on the reverb.

Things were taken up a gear by Blunt Residents Doug, and Marcus Hurley, who too you on a trip right through the drum and bass spectrum, from fresh beats through to some old-skool classics. Top work.

Dont forget, you can download the whole 4 hour show for the next 7 days via our Radio page, and a full tracklisting is below.

Bastard Jazz Radio

logoAnimate.gifHere’s your chance to get in on the ground floor with a quality new radio show
Super-slick Brooklyn based record label Bastard Jazz have just launched their brand new internet radio show. Now, I’ve only recently hooked up with these guys, but expect to hear a lot more about them here on Bluntbeats in the next little while. They produce, play, and release top-notch material, of that there is no doubt. Be sure to check out what they are up to. And, as I say, you’ll be hearing more about them soon here on Bluntbeats in the not-too-distant future. We’re liking their work, and think you will too.

Anyway, the radio show has just gone live, with two episodes now under it’s belt. Bastard Jazz founder DJ DRM is joined by labelmates Sema4, and Paul Digs, to bring you a quality selection of beats from across the genres, each and every fortnight.

Expect the unexpected…expect the eclectic“. Their words, not mine, though I agree. You’ve just got to check the tracklisting for the first two shows to see music from Edit, The Fatback Band, Flying Lotus and Red Snapper all in the mix (to name but a few)

You can get straight to the shows and the tracklistings here.

This is one that’s gonna run and run. Catch up quick, and get some good music courtesy of the Bastard Jazz crew!

All being well, we should have an interview with Engram himself in the near future, so for those of you who aren’t aware of his work, use this show as a starting point to find out whats happening!

South Coast The Movie

logoAnimate.gif Hip Hop…it’s a funny old concept…Something that started life 30 years ago in New York’s South Bronx is now by far one of the most common (and most commercially successful) music genres worldwide.

It’s also one of the vaguest.

In everyday speak, the term “hip hop” is used to describe everything from the most underground Wu-Tang freestyle, to the latest nondescript, instantly forgettable release from this weeks favourite label-hyped, money-led, soulful boy band. “Hip hop” is everywhere. You can buy a hip hop CD in Tesco’s these days, for God’s sake! (I wouldn’t bother though, if I were you). But, those with any knowledge of the subject would argue this isn’t the real deal, not by a long way.

Digging a little further, hip hop is a lot of things to a lot of people. More specifically here in the UK, it’s often thought of as some sort of “American import“, that’s all about guns, ho’s, and drive-by shootings. Doesn’t sit well with your cup o’ tea and bacon sandwich during Countdown, does it?

PR3 at the Edge, Luton

The Peoples' Republic of Rock & Roll flyer One for the local, home-counties crew here. This Saturday 20th December, and for ONE NIGHT ONLY, VSTM Records takeover the Edge, on Park Street in Luton, promising pulsating techno, electro, dubstep, glitch, and whatever else takes our fancy.

This is to celebrate the release of SYNKROTIK NEKRONIZATION, the new record on VSTM by Meek Tiger (aka DJ Engram, who has graced Blunt Beats Radio with appearances in the past).

The CD – with beautiful full artwork – will be on sale at the event.

For this show they are delighted to announce that the mesmerising live show by Steevio & Suzybee will be hitting the town, blending sound and visual in mind-bending, soul-shifting ways. This really is an astounding sight to behold, so we are incredibly proud to bring artists of such pedigree to Luton.

Also on the bill will be VSTM’s own DJ Engram and Creeping Jaw Society, as well as label associate Oblio and guest slots from DJ Akira and DJ Logic.

Showcasing the finest in floor-shaking waist-winding grooves, this night will prove to be one not to miss just before Christmas, and at only £3 entry and all drinks £1.50 before midnight, a bargain too!!!

All sorted

After a few technical glitches at our end we managed to get up and running in time for the second part of last night’s Allsorts show. Apologies to all those out there in listenerland, normal service is now resumed. We caught up with a varied mix-up of tunes from across the board and covering as many bases as possible.

The whole night’s proceedings were recorded, so for the next week you can download the show and listen again to your heart’s content. Tracklisting is below. Continue reading…

Telling The Truth

Allsorts

Sticking to Trading Standards guidelines, and sounding like an advert for wood preservatives (big up the Ronseal crew), this weeks live radio show does exactly what it says on the tin. Tonights broadcast sees the return of our Allsorts radio show, and that’s what it’ll be. Allsorts. Music from across the years, genres, and tastes of Blunt Residents Agent M, Doug, and Marcus Hurley. Live from 8pm tonight. “Something for all the family”, as they say.
