Urban Picnic Sounds 2009: The Warm-Up

UPS

It’s that time of the year once more….The full Blunt Beats family will be out in force, providing that summertime vibe with our Urban Picnic Sounds project at the Rhythms Of The World festival on the 4th and 5th July in Hitchin, Hertfordshire.

2 days. 170+ acts from all over the world. 20,000 people….and the Blunt Crew providing the perfect chilled backdrop with our sunshine sountrack to the assembled masses. Those of you in the know will be aware of just what a belter this festival is, and the fact that we have an absolute ball with some quality music, and top-notch guests playing on our Blunted stage.

We’ll be releasing more details about exactly whats happening here on the site over the next couple of weeks, but we’re gonna use tonights live radio as a bit of a warm-up, just to get you in the mood for what to expect
. Music tonight will be provided by Agent M along with an archived recording on one of Doug’s sets from the Sunday at least years festival. We’ve also got a fresh-as-boxfresh-Air-Jordans exclusive mix from Urban Picnic Sounds regular DJ Prolifik a.k.a AB0181 and his boy S-Type. Heavyweight hip hop vibes from two of the best, with plenty of fresh sounds and exclusives. Do yourself a favour and catch this one!

If you’ve never heard of our Urban Picnic Sounds
project (where have you been…??!!), check the previous posts here on the site for info, mixes, video, and all the rest of it from our past outings. Quite simply, if you can get to this, you should. Or you’ll kick yourself….

So, in a nutshell, it’s all about sun-drenched soul, sizzling hip-hop, and barbecue funk on the airwaves tonight, as we look forward to this big weekend!

Soul Food Recipies

Well, Wednesday nights Soul Food radio session saw us taking in a healthy diet of deep-fried soul and crunchy hip-hop, with a side serving of funk and blues flavours. Very tasty indeed.
A full tracklisting for the show is below, and you listen to, or download the full 4-hour mix via our radio page until next Wednesday. Aren’t we good?

Pass Me That Cornbread….Fool!!

Soul Food

Yep, we’re getting ready for another stoop-sittin’, dice-playing, 40oz slurpin’ Soul Food session this Wednesday night. (Kool-Aid optional). Best clean your kicks, and get some Phillies. Because we will.

Heavyweight soul, funk, and hip hop beats will be provided by Blunt Residents Marcus Hurley, the Erbalist, and Agent M to make the heads nod and the smokers smile!

Word has it that the Erbalist will be treating us to a set of some classic ghetto soul cuts from the legendary Stax record label. We’re looking forward to it. If you have any sense, you will too….fool!

Best Of British: Tracklisting

Well, as expected, Wednesday night’s Best Of British radio show was a belter, me ole china!

Due to unforseen trickiness, guest DJ Andy Attic was unable to make it Blunt HQ to play for us on the night. Rest assured, we’ll be getting another set from him very soon.

In the best British tradition of pulling your socks up and geting on with it, Blunt Residents Agent M and the Erbalist put in 2 hour sets apiece, with top quality tunes from across the genres. Turned out nice again.

A full tracklisting of the nights music is below, and you can download the whole 4-hour mix via our radio page until next Thursday.

Up Yer Gurkha :)

bb-bob.jpg Now, this country is crap at some things….winning sporting events, and having members of Parliament who don’t take the piss with their expense claims to name but two. But, it could be far worse…We could all be living in France….(and that would be rubbish…as us Brits are notoriously bad at speaking other peoples languages)

There are plenty of things we do well here in Blighty. Rain, buses (not those sodding bendy ones, mind), Radio 4, proper cups of tea, and we drive on the correct side of the road, just to start with. (Shame it took Joanna Lumley to have a rant to sort out this whole Gurkha thing. Fucking disgrace if you ask me…glad it’s sorted out for them though…bloody amazing blokes. Anyway, I won’t start ranting here!)

However, another thing this little island does very well is music…and, we’re gonna take a closer look at that.

Tonights live radio show sees the return of Best Of British, where we simply play British music from across the years and the genres. Simple as that. Expect to hear rock, funk, hip hop, indie, electro, drum and bass, dubstep, breaks…whatever. It’s all good. And all British.

Djs tonight include Blunt Residents Agent M and the Erbalist, who will be joined by guest DJ Andy Attic, providing an exclusive mix, live from 8pm tonight. Should be an interesting little session.

BB Allsorts

Well, we’re not talking about one of Agent M’s XXL hoodies. We’re actually talking about the return of our musical mixed bag o’ tricks that is Allsorts.

Tonights live radio show sees sets from Blunt Residents J, Doug, and Agent M. Expect to hear dubstep, funk, soul, blues, hip hop, electronica, and anything else we see fit.
