Now, my obsession with sports shoes is well documented by the crew here. It’s a well-known fact that I can’t help myself when it comes to buying old-skool Adidas (and Nike…and Puma…and Reebok) My bedroom at Blunt HQ looks like a sports shop with all the trainers, boxes, bags, laces and whatnot. But there are people who put me to shame when it comes to their love and understanding of sneaker culture. – These people are Woody and the gang at Sneakerfreaker, based in Melbourne, Australia.
If you think I’m talking like a big girl, who just wants to go shopping for shoes, then hold on a minute….bear with me.
Sneakerfreaker is a magazine and online resource that discusses and reviews anything to do with sneakers. Full stop. End of. This is the only place you need to be if talking kicks is your thing. (That’s without taking anything away from the other hard-working, top-quality, and established crews like Crooked Tongues, which is another great site. I love what you guys do too!!) There are reviews of the latest styles, articles from around the world, in-depth interviews, release dates, and lots and lots of lovely pictures.
Now, I’ve shown this publication to people who’s idea of sneakers is one dirty pair of Nikes that get used for everything from weddings to washing the car. They still found it interesting. The content is fantastic, the artwork is great, and the whole thing is printed on a real high-quality paper for you to get your grubby little mitts all over. I’d have given these guys a great review if they had been dustbinfreaker.com. The fact that they write about one of my favourite subjects is secondary. What is obvious when you read the magazine or visit the site, is that it is put together by people who do it for the love of it. They have a passion for their subject, and, to me, that is the most important thing to have by far.
The chaps have been doing their thing for a few years now. I discovered them this year through a subscription as a birthday present (thanks blunt crew!). God alone knows how I missed this, but I’m up to speed now. Put simply, if your footwear is important to you, or you just fancy a jolly good read, you could do a lot worse than checking out sneakerfreaker.I haven’t really gone into detail here about the website. Basically, it’s the bomb! – An amazing amount of content, up to the minute news, and active forums. Take a look!

Hi Lili - hope you’re well…
The Liga is certainly a nice shoe…top marks for good taste!
To be honest, I haven’t seen them in all-back for a while…
You could try the Puma shop in London:
52-55 Carnaby Street
Soho, London, W1F 9QD
Tel: 020 7439 0221
While you’re there, you may as well go to Size? (just up the road…good shop, lots of different shoes..cool staff)

Or, indeed, even if they don’t have the Liga, it’s worth going to visit Magdi, Q, and the lovely people at Slammin’ Kicks (again, just round the corner) which have wicked styles, and a safe attitude to match. Not something you come across too often these days, and the guys will certainly have a few rarities and exclusives tucked away, I’m sure.

And, of course, for info of a more local European supplier, you could of course check out the forums on Sneakerfreaker itself!
Good luck with your search!

I think Nike’s are going to the retro look now for the more casual crowd. Their athletic line is ugly, but I like the retro looking ones.
