Urban Picnic Sounds 2008

UPS

It’s here once more. All the Blunt Beats Djs plus special guest for two days in the (hopefully) sunshine with our Urban Picnic Sounds project.

Back for our 6th year at the Rhythms Of The World festival, the Blunted contingent will be holding down their very own stage, as per usual, for the whole duration.

Those of you in the know will know just how good this festival is, so I’m not gonna bang on about it. There are over 150 acts, performing over 2 days, in 14 acres of landscaped woodland, for next to nothing.

For those of you who have been living under a stone, Urban Picnic Sounds is where the family Blunt take it upon themselves to invite some friends, and create one of the most top-notch sunshine soundtracks you can imagine, as a backdrop to the entire festival. We have a blast. And we must be doing something right. This is our 6th year there, so we kind of figure you lot out there love it too!

Guests this year include Herb (Solution Sounds), Matty J, Baron Studio Sound, and Adam Williams.

Blunt Beats presents Urban Picnic Sounds 2008 at the Rhythms Of The World festival, 12 and 13th July. Tickets and info are available through Rhythms Of The World. If you are anywhere near the South of England (or even further afield) this weekend, we strongly recommend you get to this.

Another Trip to Midnight

DM

Our journey down the long and winding road continues. This week it’s Blunt residents Agent M and the Erbalist, playing 2 hours of indulgent tunes each, for you the assembled listeners.

Expect to hear lots of hip hop, nu-jazz, and broken electronica in this session. With maybe a touch of reggae too. And, these two luddites will be experimenting with the technology you kids are down with these days. It’ll probably be as bumpy and smoke-filled as their vinyl sets, but these two old sheepdogs will popping their live laptop cherries for this show. Nice :)

Destination Midnight returns this Wednesday - 4 hours of indulgent beats from Agent M and the Erbalist. Live from 8pm UK time. www.bluntbeats.com/radio

Urban Picnic Sounds. The Preview Pt.2

UPS

As most of you know, things don’t always run too smoothly in life and the last week in BluntWorld™ has been no exception. The search for a new Blunt HQ continues, as does the headache that comes with trying to find a vaguely decent place to live!

On top of all this, our very own Agent M has landed himself in a spot of hospital related drama, currently residing in our local krankenhaus sporting some lovely DVT stockings and some delightful plaster-on-limb action….

Urban Picnic Sounds. The Preview

I know I’m labouring the point now, but, we’re in the middle of moving studio here at Blunt Beats, and our very busy chasing our tails, filling in forms, and spending money. Ouch.
Anyway, while we get ourselves sorted out, we didn’t want you good people to miss out on your Blunt Beats Radio fix.

So, what are we gonna do? - Well, we’re also conscious of the fact that it’s coming close to our 2-day festival session at Rhythms Of The World, with our Urban Picnic Sounds project.
You can access some of the other sets from last years Urban Picnic Sounds here
In order to give us some breathing space, and allow you people to enjoy some of the vibe of this belter of a festival, we’ve selected four Dj sets from the weekend, which we’re gonna broadcast tonight in our normal radio timeslot.
This isn’t some cheap get-out excuse. (Well, It is. A bit.) The recordings here are some top-notch tunes from the Blunt Beats archive. So be sure to listen, and get in the mood for Urban Picnic Soudns 2008!

Heavy Vibes. Update…

You may have seen in a previous post that we’re currently moving studio/house etc. This has been a major pain in the arse to say the least. It’s also meant that we’ve been pretty busy. Therefore, we (or I) didn’t complete a tracklisting for last weeks Heavy Vibes show. Apologies for that. Things are gonna be a little disjoined until we settle into our new studio.

Anyway, massive thanks go out to our special guest Djs on the night, Benji and Roger from Baron Studio Sound, who came through with an exclusive live set of roots and culture sounds. Big ups gentlemen. Good work, and a top night was had by all. Dont forget, Baron Studio Sound will be back with us once again as guest Djs at this years Rhythms Of The World festival. We cant wait!

Heavy Vibes back once again

Next weeks live radio show sees the return of our Heavy Vibes night. Straight up roots, dancehall, and dub reggae. On this session we are joined by special guests from Baron Studio Sound, appearing at Blunt HQ for the first time, with an exclusive set for you lucky listeners.

Baron Studio Sound will also be joining us on our Urban Picnic Sounds weekender, which we’re really looking forward to! (read more about Urban Picnic Sounds here)

Urban Picnic Sounds - Info, Video and Mixes

Soul Food

It’s been a while coming, but the British weather is becoming bearable, barbecues seem like a sensible way of dining, and I’ve got one eye on the next pair of fresh Adidias for the sunshine. All this can mean only one thing. The festival season is back with us. From now through ’til the end of August, you’ll find the family Blunt either working or playing at various festivals, gigs and outdoor parties.

The big one this year is our return to the Rhythms Of The World music festival in Hitchin, Hertfordshire. Essentially, this is a bloody big world music festival with a wicked vibe, and the Messers Blunt running the only DJ stage at the whole event. 2 days in the glorious sunshine, with loads of great music from all over the world, and the Blunt Beats DJs providing the beat-backdrop to the whole shebang with our Urban Picnic Sounds project.

Lets cut to the chase. Write this date down. Saturday and Sunday the 12th and 13th of July. If you can be there, you’re gonna want to be at this festival. More info and ticket details are at the Rhythms Of The World website.

Smoking Behind The Bike Sheds - 21.05.2008 - Tracklisting

Last nights Smoking Behind The Bike Sheds live radio show from Blunt HQ was certainly entertaining! - All sorts of music from across the years and genres, reflecting our respectful youthful memories. DJs at the controls for this trip down memory lane were Blunt residents Marcus Hurley and Agent M, joined by Special Guest Oli Twizzle.

Big thanks go out this week to our special guest DJ Oli (Mr. Twizzle) for a superb mish-mash of quality beats, just for us. A very special thank you also goes to J for taking care of some technical issues of G Hurley’s, and effectively allowing the show to go ahead by the skin of it’s teeth. Ras Pizzler saves the day once more.

Anyway. A full tracklisting is below, and you can download the whole show for the next 7 days via our radio page. Nice.
