Pices And Bits Of All The (Dilla) Hip Hop Hits

JayDee.JPG

Without sounding like an old man whos losing his marbles (I’m 33 this week), sometimes it’s good to re-visit the classics. In this world of X-Factor mania, and “skin feeling visibly younger”, sometimes you need to cut out the nonsense and go back to basics.. Every once in a while we all need reminding that quality should always be the watch-word.

Which is what we’re doing here.

Here’s an exclusive mix from Blunt Buddy (and blood brother to our own Doug) Prolifik, in memory of the late J Dilla.

Quite simply, it’s some on-point hip hop and soul, perfect for the current sunshine we’re having. I know this mix is a couple of years old, but it’s always good to take something like this back off ice once in a while and give it a listen. Remind yourself whats important. In this case it’s slick rhyming and tight snares, deep beats and soulful breaks, in tribute to the man, J Dilla. Not Ant and Dec talking to some dizzy bird who wants to be Mariah Carey, or some daft fecker in lycra who fancies himself as Michael Jackson on roller skates.

So, take the advice of this old man. Pour the Kool-Aid, pitch up on the stoop, hit play, and transport yourself back to the good old days, with some smooth beats from one of the best producers who was ever in the game. A full tracklisting is below. Continue reading…

And, for you lucky listeners, we’ve got something a little bit special lined up… We’ll be playing you the on-point “Smokers Lounge” mix from Altanta-based DJ Osmose. Take our word it, you won’t be disappointed, and we’ll have more from our special guest Osmose coming up in future shows very soon.

Nice….now pass me that chicken wing, fool, and roll the damn dice!!

Expect a 4-hour wandering musical tour across the styles and the genres, as the Blunted staff take the scenic route through their record crates. Just for the hell of it.

Tonights Blunt Beats radio show sees the return of our Heavy Vibes series. Heavyweight reggae, dub, and dancehall in the area!

As a special treat, we’ve taken a look back through the archives of this long-running show, to bring you some gems that we haven’t aired for quite some time.

Some of you lucky weblanders may have caught these sets first time round. If you have, you’ll know they’re top-quality, and well worth re-visiting. But, the chances are, most of you won’t have had the chance to listen as these sets were put out for limited one-week downloads, back in the depths of time…

Sets tonight from Blunt friend Christafari, with an exclusive set recorded just for us from back in 2008. This will be complimented by a roots set from Blunt Resident the Erbalist from back in 2007, and a selection of dancehall and dub from his Blunt compatriot Agent M from the same year…

Yes, we’re playing stuff from our archives. We know. But, we figure this stuff is damn good and worth hearing again, and it gives those of you who missed out the chance to play musical catch-up with our Heavy Vibes series. Where’s the fun in only giving you bunch of slackers just 7 days in time to get hold of our recordings?

So…Get comfortable. Put the Stripe in the fridge. Kick back and light up to some vintage reggae (in more ways than one!) courtesy of Blunt Residents the Erbalist, Agent M, and special guest Christafari. Live form 8pm tonight.

Mix Download: Agent M – Destination Midnight

It’s been a while since I’ve put any mixes out for download. No excuses really. I’ve just been slack

Anyhow, I’ve decided to make up for that by uploading this archive hip hop session fron one of our previous Destination Midnight radio shows. Tunes from artists including Mobb Deep, Company Flow, and Rakim. Also, look out for the exclusive beat from Prolifik (reworked by Pizzle Fresh!!)

A full tracklisting is below, and you can download the mix here.

Urban Picnic Sounds – The Playback

Adam Williams @ UPS 2009

As our heads are still a little fuzzy, in après-festival mode, we’ve decided to take things a little easy on this weeks live radio show. Also, it’s a little “Brucie Bonus” for you people in webland (as we’re nice).

From 8pm tonight, we’ll be playing some live recordings from our recent outing with our Urban Picnic Sounds project at the Rhythms Of The World festival. Those of you that were there will be able to re-live the musical fun and games from what was a blinder of a weekend. Those of you that weren’t will find out what you missed, and will be treated to some great music from the Family Blunt and Friends.

Sets tonight will be from Blunt Resident Doug, and special guests Matty J and Adam Williams. Top notch stuff, I can assure you. Perfect for the sunshine vibe.

As a bypoint, we’re well aware we haven’t put up too much (well…ok…any) footage/pics etc of the festival as yet. Don’t worry. Rest assured we will. Very soon.

To get you in the mood, we’re following on last week’s UPS warm-up radio show, by providing you with yet more music showcasing the weekend’s activities.

Sets tonight from Resident Blunter the Erbalist, joined by heavyweight guest selectas Baron Sound with the roots vibe, and Reggae-MATT-ic, taking a latin and funk angle on the tunes. Nice. All just for us (and, of couse, you. You lucky listeners)

Best Of British: Tracklisting

Well, as expected, Wednesday night’s Best Of British radio show was a belter, me ole china!

Due to unforseen trickiness, guest DJ Andy Attic was unable to make it Blunt HQ to play for us on the night. Rest assured, we’ll be getting another set from him very soon.

In the best British tradition of pulling your socks up and geting on with it, Blunt Residents Agent M and the Erbalist put in 2 hour sets apiece, with top quality tunes from across the genres. Turned out nice again.

A full tracklisting of the nights music is below, and you can download the whole 4-hour mix via our radio page until next Thursday.
