Soul Food…The Ingredients

Soul Food

Well… Yet another tasty selection of crunchy hip hop, heavyweight funk, and sweet latin beats were on the menu in last nights Soul Food live radio session.

As per usual, a full tracklisting is below, and you can also download the full 4 hour show via our radio page for the next 7 days.

Well worth a listen (…if I do say so myself!) Continue reading…

Well Seasoned

Soul Food

In keeping with the summertime barbecue vibe (Big up to all the crew at the inaugural Ribstep cookout last weekend!), we’re doing another Soul Food special on this weeks live radio show.

Live from 8pm tomorrow night, Blunt Residents Agent M, Marcus Hurley, and Doug will be providing another stoop-sittin’, dice-playin’, chicken-munchin’ soundtrack with lots of quality soul, funk, hip hop and associated head noddin’ beats in the mix.

Best put the 40’s in the fridge, player…. :)

Blunt Beats Radio presents Soul Food. Live from 8pm UK time Wednesday 29th July. Sets from Blunt Residents Agent M, Marcus Hurley, and Doug. www.bluntbeats.com/radio

Looking After Your Horn

oldskate1.JPG Not like that… (You people have gutter minds…go and say ten Hail Mary’s!).

What I’m actually talking about is the long-awaited return of our Groundbeat radio session tomorrow night. As most of you know, this is basically where we take a jazz angle to our wax-digging antics. Jazz-influenced hip-hop, soul, funk, breakbeat, nu-jazz, and straight-up Blue Note classics. All in the mix. Because we’re nice.

Your groovy-cat, zoot-suit-wearing-Djs on the night will be Blunt Beats Residents the Erbalist, Agent M, and Doug. Live from 8pm UK time tomorrow night. Smooth as a smoothie, baby.

Groundbeat Revisited

All things jazz-influenced was the name of the game in last nights live radio session, Groundbeat.
The wide-ranging selection of beats from across the years and the genres was put together by Blunt Residents Doug, Agent M, and Marcus Hurley. Top stuff all round.

Don’t forget, you can download the entire 4 hour show via our radio page for the next 7 days, and, a tracklisting is below:

Bastard Jazz Radio

logoAnimate.gifHere’s your chance to get in on the ground floor with a quality new radio show
Super-slick Brooklyn based record label Bastard Jazz have just launched their brand new internet radio show. Now, I’ve only recently hooked up with these guys, but expect to hear a lot more about them here on Bluntbeats in the next little while. They produce, play, and release top-notch material, of that there is no doubt. Be sure to check out what they are up to. And, as I say, you’ll be hearing more about them soon here on Bluntbeats in the not-too-distant future. We’re liking their work, and think you will too.

Anyway, the radio show has just gone live, with two episodes now under it’s belt. Bastard Jazz founder DJ DRM is joined by labelmates Sema4, and Paul Digs, to bring you a quality selection of beats from across the genres, each and every fortnight.

Expect the unexpected…expect the eclectic“. Their words, not mine, though I agree. You’ve just got to check the tracklisting for the first two shows to see music from Edit, The Fatback Band, Flying Lotus and Red Snapper all in the mix (to name but a few)

You can get straight to the shows and the tracklistings here.

This is one that’s gonna run and run. Catch up quick, and get some good music courtesy of the Bastard Jazz crew!

Another Tasty Offering

Soul Food

We’re certainly full to bursting here at Blunt HQ, after gorging ourselves on the beats in last nights Soul Food radio show. First up, guest DJ Prolifik presented his first exclusive podcast for Blunt Beats, taking us on a journey through his stacks of classic hip hop wax. Top selection, which was a pleasure to hear.

Prolifik was followed by yet another guest for you lucky people, and that would be designer, DJ, and beatmaker, the Berlin-based Mr Phipson. Oh yes. Wicked stuff. Just over an hour of spaced out jazz breaks and hip hop beats. As fresh as the proverbial daisy.

Bringing the session to a close was a mix from our own Blunt resident Doug, with a high quality mix of fresh hip hop cuts (as you would expect) and quality funk breaks, marking the end of another Soulfood outing.

A tracklisting is below, but do yourself a favour and get hold of all 3 of these exclusive sets by downloading the whole show via our radio page. It’ll be there for the next 7 days.
