The Audiovault Project returns

avp200705_bbflyerfront.jpgYes, you read it right, The Audiovault is back! After a successful pilot episode aired to those in the Luton area last November, AVP is back for a monthly run at the Hat Factory starting on 26th May.

For those who don’t know, The Audiovault Project is the series of gigs where we promote the live aspect of the styles of music that make up the Blunt Beats vibe. The residents will be there with the dope vinyl, but for these gigs we’re adding something a little different if the form of live acts.

On the 26th of this month we’re proud to present shows from New Groove Formation and Benjamin Sirota. More info will be posted here shortly…

Blunt Beats Radio presents - “A Night Of Noodling”

grin4.jpg
That’s right…it’s nearly that time of the week again. However, this weeks live show has got a bit of a twist. We’re going down a bit of an ambient/electronic/experimental route on this weeks radio session.

We’ve been speaking to some of you good people in webland, who have been telling us how much you like this kind of musical excursion. Well, that’s fine with us, because it means we can get indulgent, and play stuff we love, for what it is. Quality music from right around the world, but it’s more likely to make your brain ooze than your booty jiggle (though you never know!)

Expect bits of electronica, amibent, and experimental avant-garde noodlings. A right eclectic but vitamin-rich mix. Sets this week will be from Blunt Beats residents Agent M and the Erbalist, with long-time Blunt Beats cohort J passing through Blunt HQ, steppin’ up to drop an exclusive set for Blunt Beats Radio, containing some hand-picked, stir-fried oddments, as our welcome guest. Live, just like every week, from 8pm UK time. Wednesday. Nice.

You know this is gonna be a quality selection….

If you can’t catch the show, don’t forget it’ll be available for download via our radio page at for 7 days after the show…so no excuses!

We’ll catch you Wedneday. 8pm. For a succulent course of electronic noodles of the highest standard….

Blunt Beats Radio 25th April

grin3.jpgHere we go again. The Blunt Beats resident DJ’s will be doing their thing, live from 8pm tonight, UK time. It’s gonna be a bit of a mixed bag o’ tricks this week, with a selection of funk, soul, hip hop, and drum and bass. The running order for this weeks session like like this:

8.00-9.20 - The Erbalist, fresh back from Paris, will be kicking things off with some funk and hip hop cuts from his ever growing collection of gems.

9.20-10.40 - Agent M returns with more hip hop beats. He’s been on a bit of a reggae, and a soul tip of late (the sun has been out!), and his music selection has been chilled out to the point of horizontal, so he’s well up for playing something a little more rugged tonight. (saying that, the sun is still out, so expect the odd soul or funk tune to sneak it’s way in!)

10.40-12.00 - Marcus G Hurley takes us up to midnight, with the second part of a 2 part drum and bass history lesson. This session will follow on from last weeks show, which we know from the feedback that you guys in webland enjoyed! - Expect more of the same tonight. Old skool drum and bass from 94-97 courtesy of Mr. Hurley.

Don’t forget, if you aren’t able to listen to the show live tonight, you can download the whole shebang for the next 7 days, via our radio page. No excuses! :)

Blunt Beats Radio - LIVE at The Hat Factory 4th April

wedradio.gif

It’s that time of the month again. We’re back for more beats, chinwags, and shandies, down at the Hat Factory in Central Luton. For those of you that aren’t aware, once a month, we take our Wednesday night live radio sessions, and put ‘em in a cosy bar…The whole thing is streamed live as per our usual radio shows, but you the public get the chance to come and see us doing our thing live, say hello, and have the odd tipple. Can’t be bad.

The night takes place at the Hat Factory, Bute St, Luton, Beds, tomorrow night (4th April), and runs from 8 until midnight. There’s no charge on the door (’cos we’re nice like that), and the venue has a fully licensed bar.

We’ve been doing this for a couple of months now, and to positive responses. We’re hoping to be able to move this project to an even more comfy bar in the same venue in the next couple of months, and we’ll keep you posted on that.

Sets this weeks from DJ Hughes, Agent M, and the Erbalist. As the flyer suggests, expect a mixture of hip hop and funk sounds through til the midnight hour. Nice. See you there :)

Of course, if you’re unable to make it down in person, the whole evenings music will be streamed live on Blunt Beats Radio courtesy of our good friends at Level 1, and, it’ll be available for download for the following 7 days. No excuses. In person, at the bar, in your front room, or on Tuesday mornings on the download tip. We’ve made this session as accessible as we can. Enjoy.

Kieran Hebden and Steve Reid at Koko

This has to be one of the most exciting musical events that I have been to. The night was kicked of by the first set of James Holden, playing some great sounds of electronical madness. His second set really started getting the crowd moving rhythmically with the electronic bleeps & far out drone sounds. Big ups to Mr Holden for 2 fine dj sets.

The support act wasn’t all that so I’ll swiftly move on to the main act – Kieran Hebden & Steve Reid. What can I say? I was breathless for 2hrs of mad free jazz drumming mixed with Mr Hebden’s wild mix of electronical madness whipping the crowd up into a electrojazzology frenzy.

This has to be one of the greatest musical performances I have ever seen, and I’ve seen many. It is definitely the first gig in a long time were I’ve walked out of a venue afterwards totally buzzin’ from the performance and in awe of the music. Thank you very much Mr Reid & Mr Hebden for a fantastic night of great music.

So my tip of the week is go see these guys if you get a chance. You won’t be disappointed. Drop us a comment I’ve you were there too, or have caught the KH & SR experience…

New Track from MC Sirota

elecperiodic.jpgLong-Time Blunt cohort MC Sirota has been busy working on plenty of new material. Check it out at his myspace site. He’s been busy working with a number of respected producers, as well as working on his own creations. Conscious lyrics with on-point, distinctive delivery. Good stuff.

Sirota works across a number of music genres including hip hop, garage, and r n’b. One of the tracks he’s just finished putting together is something that gives props to all the extended family and crews. It’s called “rolling it out” and you can listen to it here (and, you might even notice and impromtu Agent M appearance on the track if you listen hard enough!)

Keep your eye out for Sirota - should be a busy year. Keep it up! (and expect to see a live appearance from the man himself at our Audio Vault Project gig series over the coming months)

Blunt Beats - Live at Melting Pot - Fri 12th Jan

elecperiodic.jpg

Just a quick heads up people…We’re out and about, with our record boxes in tow this weekend. The full Blunt Beats family will be at Melting Pot at Charlie Browns, Midland Rd, Luton. The club is literally staggering distance from the main line rail station, taxi ranks, and handy food outlets! :)

Melting Pot is a good old-fashioned rock and roll night, with guest live bands, and Melting Pot resident DJs. Check out the Melting Pot Myspace site for more details. There’s 3 bands on the line up at this gig - Delphian Complex, Broken Dolls, and Kamikaze Pilots. It’s a 9pm start, and goes on ’til very late. It’s 4 quid before 11 - more after.

However, then fun for us is going to be in the other room… - All the Blunt Beats DJs will be in attendance, and we’ll be dropping the finest in soul, funk, disco, hip hop, reggae, and whatever else we see fit, complimenting the live element of Melting Pot very nicely. Top stuff. We’ll see you there. Enjoy it. We will.
