The New Soul - The Latest Edition

tv02.jpgOur good friend Dex Digital over at mixtapeshow.net has been keeping busy. Aside from the recent Jay Electronica video footage, he’s also just put out some new material on a kind of nu-soul/soultronica kind of vibe.

Now it’s always nice to get pointers when it comes to music. We get people who open our ears up to music, in the same way we do to you guys out there. So, here, I’m kind of passing one on to you.

Heavy Vibes: Tracklisting

. First off, apologies for the fact that this has taken me a few days to do. The day job has been keeping me more than busy. Anyway, last weeks Heavy Vibes session was an absolute scorcher. Our special thats go out to Guest Selecta Matty J for an absolutely exquisite selection, alongside yours truly, and the Erbalist. In fact, these sets were so good, we’re gonna be putting them up here in a post, along with a permanent download link (because we’re nice) very soon. But for now, you can still download this show via our radio page until Thursday, and a full tracklisting is below: Continue reading…

….A Reminder Of Summertime

Well, that’s it then….The clocks went back last night, it’ll soon be fireworks night, and we’re exchanging our trendy windcheaters for heavyweight hoodies here at Blunt HQ. Autumn is surely upon us. But all is not lost. Oh no. Digging though our audio archives, we pulled out a couple of sets from our very own Marcus Hurley, that he played at Urban Picnic Sounds this summer. These are live recordings from the festival, and are certainly a nice reminder of sunnier days. Donwload and enjoy at your leisure. Continue reading…

UPS - The Mixes (part I)

yellow.jpg

We’ve recently uploaded a selection of live Dj sets from our recent outing at Urban Picnic Sounds, a 2 day festival affair that took place about a month ago (see the Urban Picnic Sounds posts for more info)

Anyhow, the Ras Pizzler was bang on it (and the audio! arf arf) over the weekend, ensuring that all the sets were recorded for the Blunt Archive. What I’ve done is post up the sets from our guest Djs over the weekend, to give you a bit of a taste of whats to come. The sets in question, and their descriptions, are below. Continue reading…

New mixtape from Prolifik

Dilla Lives mixtapeOK party people, the server glitch that put us out the game last week is now sorted. You’ll be happy to see that we’re back stronger and stranger than ever.

To pick up the slack on the audio side of things I’m proud to present the freshest mixtape from one of our best buddies, the mighty DJ Prolifik. Those of you who caught him at last year’s Urban Picnic Sounds jams at the Rhythms Of The World festival will already be scrambling for the download link. Those that didn’t will be equally impressed.

The man himself recently returned to the fair city of Edinburgh from a spell in Barcelona, and put together this tribute to the late, great, and sorely missed J Dilla. He introduces it like this… Continue reading…

Brand new and phat beats for the Crew

Drum and bass in the place! After the fantastic success of the last drum and bass mix, here’s another joint of upfront and brand new white-label vinyl — placed in my hand by Nicky Blackmarket himself, right there in his record shop in Soho, London.

The track selection is a blend of jump-up, ragga influenced sounds and some real vocal pearlers. Most of the tunes on this mix will be big summer anthems on the d&b scene.

A couple of my favourites are “Crank” by Nicky Blackmarket which is a real bone shaker, “Just A Little Bit Closer” by Bungle — a lovely vocal liquid sounding track — and finally, Continue reading…

Funk’n hell, ring that bell. Part 1

I was sorting through my vast record collection probably well over ten thousand records and came across some original rare beauties. This mix part 1 of 2 was inspired, by records left to me a few years back from my Granddad (he was a dedicated jazz funk record collector) sadly passed on to the big boss in the sky.

So I have complied large-flare, kipper-tie, fur coat wearing getups to take you back to the days when music was full of soul. Such artists as Herbie Hancock, Bobby Byrd, Jr. Walker and The All Stars influence most of the music with a cheeky blues number to finish, which is sure to have you donning a Chucky Berry air guitar and kicking your leg across the floor. If like this, then part 2 is a must. The tracklisting is below Continue reading…

We like lists. Lists are good. They tell you things. Things you may otherwise forget, or not know. The are also a good aid to those with short term memory problems. The best lists are complete ones. Lovely, lovely lists.

Anyway, because we’re nice (and we like lists), we’ve tracklisted the entire 4 hours, and the details are below:
