Riot Control 11 Released

tv02.jpg It’s been a while coming, but it’s been well worth the wait. Our good friend Burt Fox has been busy, putting together the latest storming mix in the Riot Control series.

Riot Control 11 covers everything from Jay-Z to the Aphex Twin. Trust me. Do yourself a favour and download it.

And, while you’re at it, do yourself a favour and download the whole series. Quality music from the heart of Brooklyn. A welcome return to form gentlemen, we’re loving RC11 here at HQ!

If you like what you hear, don’t forget you can read the exclusive Blunt Beats interview with Burt Fox here.

Podcast - Black Market Funk

Black Market Funk As of today it’s officially British Summertime, and I’ve been in the local park sketching out ideas in the sunshine.

Due to that fairly mundane fact, this week I’m recommending a podcast from another sunny place - the ‘Sunshine State’ of Florida.

Black Market Funk (not to be confused with the legendary, London record store), is a great show I blundered across in iTunes and grabbed a few mixes.

Podcast - Tru Thoughts Mixes

Tru Thoughts Recordings logo If you’re a regular listener to Blunt Beats Radio you’ve probably heard me play many, many tracks from the cracking UK indie label Tru Thoughts. It makes sense then that this week I’m recommending you grab their Tru Thoughts Mixes podcast.

There’s been six installments so far, each one profiling an artist from the TT stable. With episodes featuring Quantic, Nostalgia-77, The Bamboos and new signings, Saravah Soul, the series gives you an interesting behind-the-scenes view of what goes into the albums they release.

If you know Tru Thoughts then you’ll probably be subscribed already, if not, then give it a go. As the late, great JB said: “Get in to it… Get involved!”

Podcast - XLR8R

XLR8R logo It’s been ages since I last did one of these reviews, so here marks the point where I make an effort to get back on these weekly. To make up for the lack of posting I’ve dug out a very regular show.

This week I’m featuring XLR8R - a US-based magazine and website that covers music, culture, style, and technology.

New track from Burt Fox and El Juba

tv02.jpgOur good friend Burt Fox at Riot Control has been busy. Aside from recently finishing the latest in his podcast series, Riot Control 9 (with Sonny Noir), Burt’s also been working on some of own beats, and working on various tracks, including this little number entitled “The Jungle“, featuring El Juba.

Now, those of you who are up with what Riot Control are doing, may have heard a version of this before. However, the man himself mailed me the other day, with a copy of the finished version, so here it is. Enjoy.

And let us (and Burt, and Juba), know what you think! - Leave you thoughts in the comments box, people.

As far as we’re concerned….well, wicked stuff! - Heavy beats (as always), and dope lyrics from Juba.

Expect to hear this getting dropped in a “Soul Food” night, or similar, very soon!

Oh snap, son! - It’s the Mixtapeshow video podcast

Our good friend Dex Digital at mixtapeshow.net (snap, son!) has just released the latest edition in his video podcast series. Check it out. Good beats, good visuals, from probably the best hip hop website on the ‘net. Nuff Said. Do yourself a favour and take a look. This video concept looks like its gonna run and run, so get up to speed with what’s happening.
For the lazy among you, I’ve embedded the video itself below. More details/comments etc are up the post at mixtapeshow.net

Riot Control 9 released

tv02.jpgIt’s been a while, but out good friends Burt Fox and Sonny Noir at Riot Control have been busy. Episode 9 in their high-quality, on-point podcasts has just been released. Riot Control 9 is out now people, so do yourself a favour and download it! This episode strays from the usual dub/funk/hip hop formula, and focuses on electronic music as selected by Burt himself. Fully recommended by the crew here, and we’re already looking forward to Riot Control 10!

(Oh yeah, Burt’s been working on on lots of his own tunes of late, some of which will be premiered in future RC episodes. If you can’t wail ’til then, check out his myspace.)

We’re looking forward to hearing your work in ‘08 gentlemen, keep up the pressure, Brooklyn style!

Podcast - MoWaxCuts

Mowaxcuts podcastOK, it’s been a while since our last podcast recommendation, but we’ve found a good ‘un to kick things off again.

Mowaxcuts is a nice little arrangement featuring “rare and not so rare tunes from mo’ wax back catalog and other related labels/artists”. Each one is a beautifully crafted 20min. (average) minimix of smooth breaks and beats. Produced by the guys at Bare (creators of designer vinyl toys and figures that are just as cool as this podcast), there’s 17 episodes so far, and they seem to drop on a (almost) monthly basis.

If you know Mo’ Wax then you’ll be right chuffed with this lot. If you don’t, give it a go - you won’t be disappointed. Check it!

Mr Phipson is back

Mr PhipsonAfter a bit of a break der Berliner is back on the block with Episode 25 of his podcast.

It’s a firin’ 30min. mix of drum and bass styleee, broken beats, hip hop instrumentals and old-school Russian jazz funk.

It’s been long awaited, but I can’t complain as I promised him a guest mix a couple of months ago.

Anyways, it’s new, it’s good and it’s there for the taking, so go grab it!

Riot Control 8 Released

It’s been a while coming, but it’s been well worth the wait. Our friends Burt Fox and Sonny Noir have just released Riot Control 8, the latest in their series of podcasts. This mix is a mellow, blissed out mashup of hip hop, soul and a touch of dubstep. We love this shit, and can’t recommend it highly enough! - Visit the Riot Control site for the download, and be sure to check the archives.

(Also, check the exclusive interview with Burt Fox we’ve got published here on Blunt Beats. Know a little more….)
