Podcast - Riot Control

riot.jpgRight. We haven’t listed any podcasts for a couple of weeks, so, in order to make up for it, we’re listing one of the best we’ve heard for ages, courtesy of the Riot Control crew. Riot Control are based in Brooklyn, New York, and put out some absolutely scorching studio sets.

What makes these guys different is the tunes, which, as we all know, is what it’s all about. Burt Fox and the crew play mellow funk, hip hop, soul, electro, dub, and whatever takes their fancy. There are some absolute gems in this series of podcasts, new and old, rare and well-known. Continue reading…

Podcast - Propercast

propercast.gifWe’re keeping it on the chilled vibe for this week’s pick. Propercast is a fairly new arrival on the scene from the guys at Properly Chilled, a healthy online community based around the downtempo genre.

There’s two episodes in the can and they describe the series like this: “Each episode of Properly Chilled’s new podcast called Propercast will highlight the new music and features you find at Properly Chilled. The format will include everything from music mixes to audio interviews, commentary and more.”

Good stuff. Check it out.

Podcast - Electronic Periodic

elecperiodic.jpgHere at Blunt Beats we like to cover a wide spectrum of quality music in our podcast picks. This week we’ve found something horizontally electronic to send your way.

There’s 29 episodes aqvailable each weighing in at around 30min. Definitely on the ‘tune-in, drop-out’ vibe. Check it.

Podcast - Paris DJs

parisdjs.gifOK we’ve skipped a week or so on the podcast reviews, so to average things out here’s a quality find. The Paris DJs podcast is a weekly audio blog from north-east Paris by a couple of guys named Loïk Dury and Djouls.

Taken from their site: “Disappointed by the formatting of the medias, they decided to launch this ParisDjs.com blog to spread their Podcast recorded with their crew of old veterans and young Parisian foxes. So mixes, selections, histories of the music, battles, debates and legendary mix-tapes will flower each week in there. You will finally be able (re-)discover the true soulful spirit of the North-East Paris”. Continue reading…

Podcast - Big Mikey Dread Radio

bmd_radio.gifThe chilly autumn nights are drawing in and the leaves are falling. What better to cheer you up than top audio from the sun-soaked island of Jamaica?

For this week’s tip-off we’ve happened across over 20 podcast versions of Big Mikey Dread’s Radio Show tucked away, playing Jamaican Music from the 1950s to the Present day. Mento, Ska, Rocksteady, Reggae, Dub, Dancehall, Modern Roots and a whole heap more.

BMD sums it all up like this: “Live chat, sillyness and Jamaican music, what more could a man want… apart from a glass of Wray and Nephew’s Overproof Rum perhaps?”

bbradio_logo-color2.gifIt’s all the way to Philadelphia for this week’s recommendation. Broken Beat Radio features a rotating variety of guests; all serving up mixes centred around the soul, nu-jazz, hip-hop vibe.

There’s a good couple of years worth of episodes in the archive. At time of writing this the latest was from Argo and featured tracks by The Roots, J Dilla, Aphro Pzyko, Domu and Mos Def. No messin’ - thumbs up from us…
