Welcome to Bluntbeats.com

"Classic and unique beats, down and dirty round the edges, for people who should know better."

Nicely Rinsed (but not blue-rinsed)

Last night’s A.F.R.O. radio show was certainly a top-notch collection of tunes, broadcast from Casa Cleanface. Heavyweight drum and bass, breaks, and dubstep were the order of the night, with a blinder of a set from our good friend and special guest Seizmic, alongside Blunt Residents Agent M and Marcus Hurley.

A (partial) tracklisting is below. (I’ve had a terrible internet connection today which hasn’t helped matters, and I’m waiting for some emails regarding the other tunes played. I’ll update this post as and when I get the info)

Dont forget all of the show is available for download for the next 7 days via the listen again feature on our radio page. Nice.

It’s A Jazz Thing

oldskate1.JPG That’s right. It certainly is. This weeks live radio broadcast sees the latest episode of our “Groundbeat” series. Basically, it’s a night of jazz-influenced music, with a bit of the traditional stuff thrown in for good measure..

That’s my kind of way of describing it. You’ll have to decide for yourself. Saying that, we always get good feedback on this popular show, so we must be doing something right.

Expect lots of downtempo hip hop, latin beats, film scores, and maybe a touch of funk to be all thrown in the mix with some big brass sections and crashing drums. DJs on the night will be Blunt Residents Doug, Agent M, and Marcus Hurley.

Blunt Beats Radio presents Groundbeat. Live from 8pm UK time, Wed 29th October. www.bluntbeats.com/radio

Moonstompin’ Tribute to the late, great Alton Ellis

Last nights Moonstompin’ radio show certainly live up to its name, with plenty of skankin’ sounds from our own Agent M, and guest DJ Matty J, who took you on a top quality ska and rocksteady journey.

Our special thanks go out once again to guest Matty J, who, aside from airing some top-notch original recordings, and playing a blinding set, he also took time out to pay a musical tribute to the “Godfather Of Rocksteady“, the late, great, Alton Ellis, who died recently. R.I.P Alton, and well done Matty, for a fitting tribute. (you can read a copy of Alton’s obituary from The Times here)

You can download the whole 4 hour show via our radio page for the next 7 days, and a full tracklisting is below.

A Little Extra Moonstomp

As you’ll have noticed from my previous post, this weeks radio show sees the return of our ska and rocksteady night, Moonstompin‘. It also sees the retutn of our good friend and spot-on DJ, Matty J.

Just to get you in the mood, I thought I’d post a link to one of Matty’s previous Moonstompin sets, for you to download and listen to, here. This was recorded live on the night of transmission.

This set is in our 24/7 mix loop. For those of you that are unaware, we have a loop of mixes from ourselves, guests, and good friends that runs when our radio shows are off-air. You can access this at any time via our radio page.

Time To Moonstomp

Right then. You’d better get the braces out of the drawer, run an iron over that Ben Sherman, and lace up your cherry reds.

Uncharted Territory October - Review and Tracklisting

Right then, all. Here’s the tracklisting from last nights drum-and-bass-tastic Uncharted Territory radio show. Unfortuately, special guest Operata M was unable to make it on the night. But worry not people. We’ll get him back again soon enough!

This meant that it was left to Blunt Residents Doug and Marcus Hurley to hold the fort with some quality dnb beats. Which they did. very well. :)

You can download the entire 4 hour show via our radio page for the next 7 days, and a full tracklisting is below.

Into The Unknown Once More

If heavy breaks and big basslines, in a drum and bass mashup kind of style are your thing, then you’ll be in for a treat with this weeks live radio show.

Blunt Residents Doug and Marcus Hurley will be musically accompanied on the night with an exclusive set from our special guest, Future Science honcho, and all-round top bloke Operata M, during our Uncharted Territory session. It’s a pleasure to have you back at the controls, M!

Expect to hear lots of classics, rarities, and white labels from across the years from these 3 DJs. If past experience is anything to go by, then the beats will be slammin’, of that I’m sure.

Blunt Beats Radio presents Uncharted Territory. 8pm UK time, Wed 16th October. DJs on the night will be Blunt Residents Doug and Marcus Hurley, with an exclusive set from special guest Operata M. www.bluntbeats.com/radio

Allsorts October review and tracklisting

Well, Allsorts certainly lived up to its name this month. Marcus G Hurley, special guest Dog Latin and myself bolted, taped, glued and nailed as many different styles as possible into a four-hour Frankenstein’s monster of a show. From Azymuth, Beastie Boys and Andy C to (He)xstatic, Yoda and Zeppelin.

Big shout to Dog Latin for an excellent and well-crafted set. If you missed it keep your eyes peeled for more from the Rogue Party crew on Blunt Beats Radio in the future, and on the Radio page you’ll find the download for the next seven days. A tracklisting of the night’s proceedings is below.

Pieces And Bits of Hits

Allsorts

Tomorrows live radio show sees another hefty portion served from our musical mixing-pot that is Allsorts. As you should know by now, on this night (musically), anything goes. From dub, to funk, to jungle, to hip hop, to jazz. Whatever. It’s an opportunity for our DJs to be totally indulgent, and play whatever they like. (while maintaining quality control, I might add!)

DJs on the night will be Blunt Residents Doug, and Marcus Hurley. The lads will also be joined by a special guest from Hertfordshire beat-providers Rogue, with an exclusive set just for us!

Blunt Beats radio presents Allsorts. Live from 8pm Uk time, Wed 8th October. www.bluntbeats.com/radio
