On a weekly basis (and starting next week) I’ll be posting up a quick review and link to a fresh podcast that I’ve blundered across in the course of hunting down top-quality, free audio on the web. They’ll be mostly music based and will be centred around the types of music and vibe that Blunt Beats are all about.
For those out there not sure what the hell a podcast is, here’s my best shot at a non-techie explanation:
A podcast is like a pre-recorded radio show that is produced regularly and published online for download. Over the last couple of years the phenomenon has exploded and there’s now millions of podcasts available covering all sorts of topics, genres and subjects. Some are spoken word, some music-based, some video, most are free but some you gotta pay for.
Now here’s the clever bit that makes podcasts different to normal audio downloads… In a modern media-player (there’s a few out there but iTunes is the undisputed heavyweight champ) you can add a link to where a podcast is published. This then lets your media-player go off regularly to check for updates to your favourite podcasts and download them if they’re available. This means that once you’ve set up a few you don’t have to keep going back to the sites - the music finds it’s way to you. Pretty neat, huh?
Wikipedia has a pretty good page on podcasts for those who want the techie explanation.
So now you know. I hope you enjoy the podcasts I’ll find, and if there’s any you’ve signed up to that’re worth sharing let us know in the comments section.
