OK party people, the server glitch that put us out the game last week is now sorted. You’ll be happy to see that we’re back stronger and stranger than ever.
To pick up the slack on the audio side of things I’m proud to present the freshest mixtape from one of our best buddies, the mighty DJ Prolifik. Those of you who caught him at last year’s Urban Picnic Sounds jams at the Rhythms Of The World festival will already be scrambling for the download link. Those that didn’t will be equally impressed.
The man himself recently returned to the fair city of Edinburgh from a spell in Barcelona, and put together this tribute to the late, great, and sorely missed J Dilla. He introduces it like this…
“Since 10th Feb 2006 there have been Dilla fans all over the world pouring over his death. It was a tragic day for good music - not just hip hop. Dilla represented a new sound, an influential sound, a beatmaker on a higher plateau from anyone else.”
“Working with seminal hip hop artists such as: The Roots, Busta Rhymes, A Tribe Called Quest, Common, The Pharcyde and Madlib, helped to boost his recognition in the producing world.”
“There have been many Dilla tribute mixes over the past year and a half, and I wanted to do my own one. This selection of songs produced by Jay Dee a.k.a J Dilla represent my idea of dilla’s sound - Soaked in soul, Smacking snare drums and crisp hi-hats, with that classic Dilla bounce.”
“If you are a dilla novice or a Dilla veteran, then this is for you - regardless.”

[…] The whole setup costs you, the punter, absolutely nothing, and its runs for 2 days over the 14th and 15th of July (12-8 Sat, 12-6 Sun). As per form, we’ve got some special guests playing alongside the Blunt Beats family over the weekend. Sets this year from hip hop maestro Prolifik (once again), fresh back on these shores form Barcelona. It’s good to have you back, my man…and really looking forward to hearing you do your thing once again for the people. You can catch a recent J Dilla tribute mix from Prolifik here, to give you some idea of what I’m talking about. Joining DJ Prolifik will be Blunt cohort Adam Williams. You may have caught Adam playing on our live radio show in the last “Destination Midnight” series. Needless to say, it was quality stuff, and he’ll be making his debut at UPS this year. Well worth a check, I can’t wait to hear what he’s gonna drop on the day. Another Dj debut this year comes from reggae veteran Swainy Roots Souljah from Solution Sounds. Sweets roots vibes on tap, for sure! […]

Fat beats, fresh cuts. That’s the best Dilla tribute mix I’ve ever heard, and one of my favorite mixtape ever.
Big’up ! RIP Jay Dee.
