Podcast - XLR8R

XLR8R logo It’s been ages since I last did one of these reviews, so here marks the point where I make an effort to get back on these weekly. To make up for the lack of posting I’ve dug out a very regular show.

This week I’m featuring XLR8R - a US-based magazine and website that covers music, culture, style, and technology.

“It was founded as a newsprint ‘zine in 1993 by publisher Andrew Smith in Seattle; the magazine currently has offices in San Francisco and New York. While XLR8R’s initial focus was on electronic music, it has over the years widened its scope to include indie rock, hip-hop, and reggae/ dancehall music as well as related trends in style, art, fashion, and technology.”

The styles are varied and all bang-up-to-the-minute snapshots of what’s going on in various scenes out there. I subscribed to their podcast a while ago and enjoyed every one that dropped into my iTunes. I since moved to a new computer and must’ve forgot to re-subscribe. Shame on me.

Anyways, there’s dozens of episodes available so get stuck in!

If you’re on the catch-up, like me, the recent mixes I’d recommend are the Dubstep Goes South mix from São Paulo DJ Bruno last week, or the French Hip Hop mix from Thomas.

The magazine is also well worth a look, and most back-issues seem to be available in high-quality PDF too.

The French Hip-Hop selection is not as good as I hoped.
Commercials or hardcore tracks … but there are some good songs too.
