For this week’s tip-off we’ve happened across over 20 podcast versions of Big Mikey Dread’s Radio Show tucked away, playing Jamaican Music from the 1950s to the Present day. Mento, Ska, Rocksteady, Reggae, Dub, Dancehall, Modern Roots and a whole heap more.

Sorry to have only just picked up on this post, this site, nice though it is has nothing to do with the show and it was only finding a back link to your comments that had me visiting here. I’ve only just found it in April! Sorry if you thought I was just being rude…
I note all your points and of course others have made them and I’ve thought about them a good deal myself.
People can go to a lot of places for the music, and illegally download most of the tracks without me on them, and that is why I talk over the tunes to a greater or lesser extent, I top and tail them generally with me or a sound effect or two and sometimes drop in to the tune when it’s playing, only ever out of enthusias for it of course. This is to prevent people ‘stealing’ the tunes, I know it must be frustrating to have me do it if you’ve been looking for a tune forever, but that’s the way I have decided to do it and to help Jamaican artists by pointing listeners in the direction of the music while stopping them getting ripped off.
I don’t agree that there is a lack of proffessionalism, sure if I had more time I could do a lot more with the show and make it more entertaining/current/informative/researched, but I’m puttinng this together literally in one or two spare hours inbetween keeping my wife and son happy… Ian at house of Reggae has the time a Bachelor can afford to spend, and he does, almost all of it on his shows and research. Mine for the moment has to be me lieterally talking about the records off the top of my head, without the time to research extra angles, or check my facts…
What I wanted with the show is what I have got, energy, enthusiasm, love, sillyness, and a lighthearted approach, designed I have to say more for the New collector, not the guy who has every tune but one in his collection.
Apart from not having the time to research my facts or put playlists together that are in my opinion more interesting than they already are, I have to say, I’m really happy with the show.
I dont know when I’ll next be recording, but I’ll certainly give you a shout out if, like with the records, I can remember off the top of my head to do it!!
I certainly don’t take any offence at your comments, everyone’s opinion who listens to the show is as valid as the next person’s!
