Now, I’m a busy boy at the moment, but I’m aware of the fact that not all of you are. Some of you are lazy, dole-scrounging so-and-so’s, some have injuries (such as toothache) which means you cant go very far, and some are simply hermits.
Just for you misfits of society, I’ve compiled some more stuff from the world of the Internet, for you to watch and learn something. Rather than just being a burden on the taxpayer, you can be an educated one, so read on.
Now, it’s kind of worked out that all these clips have an 80s theme (except the first one). It wasnt intentional, it just kind of happened that way. So, if you’re under 20, this probably won’t make that much sense to you. Piss off and send your mates messages on facebook or play with your ipod or whatever it is you whippersnappers do. This is for the old-school!
Generation Yamakazi - This is fairly self explanatory. – Its a video on the Yamakazi (similar to Parkour), and goes into both the history and the culture of the movement, as well as showcasing some incredible acrobatics. I need a cup of tea and a sit down just from watching it.
Kitt versus Karr. – Thats right. The Hasslehoff classic. Good car and bad car meet up for yet another duel. 80′s cheese ahoy! (Excuse the German subtitles. Unless of course you are German. Then they’ll be pretty handy.)
DeLorean Documentary. – For those of you that dont know the story, John DeLorean was a firebrand, maverick car designer. His company made the stainless steel DMC used in “Back To The Future” – But the real story of the car is just as remarkable, involving the British Government, the FBI, cocaine, court cases, and Irish factory workers. The car might have handled like a Belgian bun, and cost millions, but anyone who could stick it to the Government (and Thatcher in particular) can’t be all that bad in my book!
The Hip Hop Years. – Now this is a great documentary that has been around for some time. I’m always a little dubious of things like this, as they never seem to get it right. This, however, is different. It covers the conception of hip hop from Djs like Kool Herc in the South Bronx, right up the murdering of Biggie. Theres footage in here I haven’t seen for years, and its certainly a good record of the early days of the scene. Well worth a watch, especially to see the film of the early Bronx parties. If I had a time-travelling DeLorean, I’d lace up my Puma Clydes and get over there!
The Krypton Factor – During a fried chicken and Carlsberg influenced evening with Doug, I stumbled across this short clip from the legendary show that was The Krypton Factor. Typically English in its somewhat stiltled and reserved approach, this “hi-tech” game show is something from the period time forgot (i.e. the mid 1980s) This episode is in fact the 1987 final. – Big tings!!! – If you’re English and around 30-odd, this will bring back a few memories of fish fingers for tea-time, wondering if the Yellow Team would make the assault course……
Random 80s adverts. – Yeah baby, we’re all children of capitalism, whether we like it or not. This is a collection of random old TV adverts, English and American. Some are hilarious, some are terrible, and some are just downright questionable. Maybe it’s because my background is in Marketing, but I find this stuff addictive! (I should get out more)
Right, that lot should keep you going for a while. Don’t forget to check out our other recommended time-wasting visuals in the Video section.
