We’ve been at it again. The Blunt family have been settling down in front of the screen for more random bits of film that have caught our interest.
As this regular film review has proved so popular, we thought we’d put some more up. Following on from previous reviews, there’s allsorts in here this time, from football to the French Foreign Legion. (Last time, this section covered topics from Michael Jackson to meerkats!)
Don’t forget to check the archives for previous film recommendations from the Blunt family. Some will make you laugh. Some will make you think. And some are just downright stupid. Take a look at the televisual delights below that we’ve compiled this time, and sit back and enjoy.
French Foreign Legion
This was originally aired on the Discovery Channel…Boy these guys are hardcore! - This documentary goes inside the legendary French Foreign Legion, interviewing soldiers, following training regimes, and giving some background to one of the most successful and historic fighting forces on the planet. Just watching it here at HQ made us feel worn out and like a bunch of big girls blouses. Seriously!
Loose Change 9/11
Now, I know this has been around for ages. If you’ve seen it before, then you’ll probably agree it’s worth wathcing again. If you haven’t seen it, you must have been living under a stone. We don’t normally get political here at Blunt HQ, but this now famous documentary does deserve a mention. It’s a film that discusses the events of 9/11, and some of the corruption, Government extortion, and cover-ups that took place on that terrible day.
We’re the biggest bunch of cynics you can imagine here at HQ (we only open charity letters to get the free pens!), but some of the questions this film raises are well worth considering. All the footage is a compilation of what is already in the public domain, but it has been extremely well put together, and it’s arguments are strong. Watch this film, and see it for what it is. Peace and love to all.
Secret Life Of Machines - The Lift
You can’t beat a bit of British eccentricity when it comes to engineering. This is an episode taken from the “Secret Life” series by (scientists/engineers/workshop-pottering blokes) Tim Hunkin and Rex Goddard. Basically, they attempt to de-mistify everyday household objects and explain how they work and the history of their invention. This particular programme is about the concept and design of the elevator. Sounds as geeky and uninteresting as hell, but trust me, watch it and learn something. This was a great series, and we’ll be uploading other episodes over the coming weeks.
Newcastle Kebab Shop
This got sent to me by Doug (a Newcastle immigrant from North of the Border), and was apparently taken in a kebab shop near Bigg Market in Newcastle. I dunno if it’s for real, or if it’s a wind up. Either way is hilarious in a scary kind of way. Makes us all at HQ glad that we don’t wear that much man-made fabric, and that we’re in spitting distance of the M25 and relative sanity! (More tea Vicar? - this tiffin is wonderful!! - Splendid don’t you know. Pass the Earl Grey, old bean etc)
Graham Taylor -An Impossible Job
Oh dear. I can barely bring myself to write this without cringing (or should I say crying?). Anyone who’s followed the fortunes of the England football team over the past 15 years will be well aware of this up close and personal documentary. It follows hapless England manager Graham Taylor on the trail of elusive victory, and qualification for the USA World Cup in 1994. This film includes the (im)mortal lies “Linesman!, Linesman!”, and “Do I not like that” - As I said, Oh Dear.
